I got the call when I was at work — Lana was in labor. But we were well prepared and Em handled everything brilliantly. Two little bucklings, with white spots on their foreheads, just like their Daddy! Apparently when the first one dropped Lana was startled (what’s THAT??) but beyond a certain bewilderment, she did fine. William (Willy) and Winston, doing fine too. All soiled bedding was propmptly cleared and burned, there has been increased coyote activity in the area as well as a cougar sighting near Pe Ell, and the scent of fresh afterbirth can carry for miles….

In the greenhouse, lettuce and spinach are growing lushly — fresh salads everyday! Beets, garlic, onions, thyme, basil, carrots, radishes — all growing well. Outside, beds have been dug and prepped for corn and more sweet onions and sunflowers, and the potato beds continue to develop — the first batch of potatoes are already sprouting.

In the front field(s) a training course has been set up, with flags, jousting lines, stanchions — all the necessary toys for teaching Jennifer all about eventing. Daily she is learning more, and she’s doing great! Both horses will be vetted tomorrow, for spring vaccinations and check if their teeth need floating (before we seriously start working Jen with bit we need to make sure there are no mouth problems) We have been doing light riding with her as well as tons of ground work (as Chance is into his management conditioning) but have been careful not to throw too much at her all at once, she’s just a big child still.

Spring is fully here now and the forest is glorious!
